Patriot Challenger to Cantor Starting to Catch Twitter Fire

From The Editors of The American Refugees Bloggers

Something is happening with the campaign of Commander Peter Greenwald, TEA Party Patriot challenging Majority Leader Cantor.  When Greenwald first showed up on our radar, a little over a month ago, few people had heard of him.  Just two weeks ago, he had about 700 Twitter followers and a dead timelime.  Now he is followed by over 2500 and his tweets are being ReTweeted 20 and 30 times a piece.  People are asking me about him in e-mails and phone calls. This "David" has patriots bringing him stones to use in his battle against "Goliath".

This tweet has 31 RT’s as I am wring this article at 4:30 pm ET. 2/4/14.

His other tweets are engaging people and gaining traction as well.  His tweets on the Fair Tax, securing the border, not raising the debt ceiling, supporting the second amendment, following the constitution, and replacing Cantor with a real conservative and a true leader are resonating with the base.

As excited as we get when we see things like this, we also get suspicious.  So, we started investigating Greenwald’s account for fake followers or paid ReTweets. His followers are 99% real and active and his ReTweets are checking out genuine as well.

Two things are clear. The base is falling in love with Greenwald and they don’t like Eric Cantor. In fact, the base feels betrayed by Cantor.  Why?

Cantor has been a loud voice for amnesty.  He has failed to sponsor or support HR36, which would create a select committee on Benghazi.  He fought for the Ryan-Murray deal which increased overall spending even while cutting pensions for our veterans.  While the Republicans have drifted left, Cantor's voting record is even worse than that of the average house republican.  Heritage Action gives him just a 61% percent score.  Under his leadership, the average Republican score is a pathetic 65%.  He is the very face of the moderate Republican establishment in DC.

We’ll have to watch to see if Commander Greenwald’s growing national Twitter army translates to boots on the ground in Virginia.  Ultimately votes in the 7th district of Virginia is what will decide this election.  There is no way Greenwald will come close to Cantor’s war chest of corporate, GOP establishment, and pro amnesty dollars.  He doesn’t need to.  He needs to raise enough money to get his message out and inspire about 20,000 people to get out and vote for him.  It’s good to see that he is making use of the tools available to him.  He is running an effective grassroots campain.
